FAQs

FAQs
on House Painting

  • What should I look for in a painting contractor?

There are several key things to look for when choosing a painting contractor. At the very least, check to see if they are licensed, insured, experienced and capable. Look for reputable companies with local references. If it’s a repainting project, make sure they have appropriate experience.

  • Will fresh paint have unpleasant odors?

Most of the paints we use are water-based and zero or near-zero VOC products. These products have very little odor.

  • Can I trust your crew in my home?

    • Absolutely! MTS Painting is a drug free workplace. We hire decent human beings and train, train, train. Some hires are already excellent craftsmen. But all of our painters participate in ongoing technical training and ethics coaching to ensure that the most advanced techniques are being used and current standards are being followed. We have created a positive environment for our crew through steady work and good pay. All this contributes to happy, healthy, motivated workers that are there to serve you. MTS Painting has been awarded the BBB Business Ethics Award twice. In 2014 and 2021. read more

  • Can you provide references?

Yes, please specify if you want local drive-by references or actual previous clients-to-talk-with references. Our customer reviews can be found by doing an online search. 98% of our reviews are five stars with over 60 reviews on Google and we have received numerous recommendations and awards on Nextdoor, Yelp, Guild Quality, and other review sites.

  • Do you power wash my house before you paint it?

Yes, exterior painting involves a clean surface which is usually achieved through pressure washing. Some surfaces are hand cleaned as needed, like doors and window trim. Clean, dry, dull, and solid are taught and coached standards of our job preparation. The cost of pressure washing and prep of all surfaces to be painted are included in the price of your job. We even offer media (sand) blasting for extreme coatings removal if it makes sense.

  • Do you take care of repairs?

We can address damage to stucco, wood, siding, doors, and drywall under our R-62 AZROC contractor license. Any major damage or structural issues should be addressed by a licensed contractor with expertise in those types of repairs. We will consult with you about repairs that exceed our license permissions. We have many referrals to help get you started.

  • Do you carry liability insurance?

We carry more than required general liability and auto insurance as well as workmen’s compensation.

  • Do you guarantee your work?

    • We provide a seven-year warranty on our workmanship. read more

  • How long will my exterior paint job last?

Exterior paint is designed to last between 7 and 10 years depending on the quality of paint that is used and the amount of exposure it has to the elements. See the Res FAQs

  • How long will my interior job last?

Technically, interior paint can last a lifetime. Considering that people contribute to wear and tear and that colors go in and out of style, an interior paint job lasts between 5-15 years before repainting is recommended. This depends on how much traffic is in each room, how much exposure the paint has to the elements (i.e., the sunshine), and the type of paint that was and will be used. MTS Painting works with you to get you the interior paint job you want, and we are happy to help make recommendations and provide options to meet all your needs.

  • Does your crew speak English or Spanish?

All of our painters speak English clearly so there are never any safety or homeowner communication issues. Many of our painters are bilingual. We will do our best to ensure there are no language barriers for any language or accent.

  • Do you require payment up front?

Typically, we send a digital down payment invoice to secure your materials and to hold your spot in our schedule. You will be invoiced for the remaining balance after the job is satisfactorily completed to industry and manufacturer’s standards.

  • Do I have to be home while you are painting my house?

You do NOT have to be at home if arrangements can be made to provide access to the areas to be painted. All of our painters are bonded and insured, and they are on-the-books employees – not subcontractors. This alleviates most concerns. We have even painted interiors while the homeowners were gone for the summer. We take photos of each room before we move furniture so that we can reset everything perfectly.

  • How do I request an estimate for painting services?

It’s simple. There is a Request Estimate button on every page of our website, or you can call 480-464-1552. Our office hours are 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. We will return your call within one hour.

  • Do you have any hidden charges or is the price I pay the same as the estimate?

The price you pay will be the same as the estimate. There are two possible exceptions. First, if we discover damage or an issue that was not apparent during the estimate process, we will bring it to your attention and ask you how you would like to handle it. It may cost you to mitigate the situation properly. Second, you may think of other things you would like to have done while the crew is working on your project. In most cases, we are glad to accommodate you. We will negotiate a fair, additional charge with you, and if possible “throw-it-in".

  • What type of paint do you use?

We work with all major paint manufacturers. If you have preference of brand, we will honor your choice. Regardless of the brand used on your project, we only use the medium to high quality paints from each of our suppliers, and never the low-end products. We recommend investing in high to supreme quality paints whenever longevity is most important. Ask about our 7-year Standard Warranty paints that usually last 10 to 15 years.

  • Do I need to move everything out of the room before you paint?

Please move everything you can. Our crew will move large pieces of furniture, but you must clear all items off the top of hutches, tables, dressers, and any other horizontal surfaces. Remove all decorations from the walls. Let the painters know if you plan to put the decorations back in the same place. If so, they will leave the nails and mounting hooks in place. Otherwise, they will remove the hooks and spackle the holes. Disconnect and unplug electronics. Regarding wall or ceiling mounted lamps, if the fixture has previously been caulked in place, we paint around it. If we can easily free it from the wall or ceiling, we will unfasten them and paint behind them. If the refrigerator is on wheels, we will roll it away from the wall, paint the wall, and then roll it back in place. Similarly, we pull washers and driers away from the wall just far enough to paint behind them, then we will push them back in place. We do not disconnect them. We do not remove toilets. We only paint as much of the wall behind a toilet as we can reach. Bookshelves, free standing cabinets, and entertainment groupings must be emptied by you. Our crew will move them far enough to paint the wall behind them and move them back in place. Our crew will not handle living creatures, pet cages, aquariums, terrariums, and other animal enclosures.
