Refinishing or repainting outdoor furniture can help restore your furniture to its former glory and extend its lifespan. Both wood furniture and metal furniture can be reconditioned. If you have wood furniture that has been exposed to full or partial Arizona sun, the wood likely is dried out. If your outdoor furniture is constructed of metal, the paint may be chalky or flaking and there may be patches of rust.
Will it be worth the effort and expense?
The first step is to make a thorough assessment of the present condition of your furniture. Is it stable or is it wobbly. Does it need reconstruction before refinishing or repainting. In our shop, we see wood furniture that needs joints reglued or fasteners replaced. Metal furniture may need joints rewelded. If the furniture is in reasonably good shape, recondition it. However, the prudent decision may be to replace it.

Then, the next step is for you to choose the color and finish. The choices you make will impact the steps of preparation necessary. If you are changing color, more preparation is required. In either case, our painting technicians will thoroughly clean the furniture, patch damaged areas, sand rough areas, and scuff the shiny original finish to promote better adhesion.
If the furniture is to be painted, priming may be required. We will use the appropriate primer for the circumstance and then paint the recommended number of coats.
If the wood furniture is to be stained, we will strip the old finish, clean, patch and sand as necessary, and then go through the refinishing steps. If the furniture is to be oiled, the same preparation steps are taken, and then a fresh coat of oil is applied.
Benefits to you of restoring your old outdoor furniture.
Refinishing and repainting outdoor furniture has several benefits. Firstly, it is a cost-effective way to give your old furniture a new lease on life and make it look new again. Secondly, it allows you to customize the look of your furniture to match your outdoor decor. Thirdly, restoring can help prevent rust and other forms of corrosion from damaging your furniture. In addition:
UV-resistance. Our Phoenix sunshine is tough on your wood surfaces. Paint, stain, and oil are like sunscreen for your wood, letting all that natural warmth soak in but repelling the harmful rays that fade and deteriorate.
Moisture-resistance. Left unprotected, wood falls prey to moisture very, very quickly. This is how rot sets in, which then can only be repaired by investing in more substantial wood repair, replacement, and filling.
Pest-resistance. Just like the rest of us, pests are happy to find a path of least resistance. Unprotected wood offers an easy entrance, especially once it’s compromised by decay from the other elements working against it.
