Introduction
Going virtual is the new norm. Virtual learning, virtual working, virtual medical appointments, and more. With many people working from home, MTS Painting has been offering virtual estimating.
A virtual estimate is simply a quote that we provide for your painting project over the phone. For anyone that prefers a virtual estimate over an in-person bid, we will collaborate with you to get a detailed description and photos to provide the most accurate estimate we can without being on-site.
What’s Involved in Virtual Estimating?
Collaboration will be key in getting you an accurate virtual estimate. To see if this is option is right for you, here is our typical process:
- Request a virtual estimate. We can do this over the phone when you call our office or by submitting a form online. Simply mention that you would like the estimate to be done virtually. We are happy to accommodate you.
- Our estimator will reach out to learn more about the project.
- Is the project interior, exterior, or both?
- Will there be a major color change?
- What is the square footage to be painted?
- Are there any minor repairs that need to be addressed before painting?
- Do you have any specific areas of concern?
- How old is the surface to be painted?
- What material is the surface (stucco, wood, drywall . . .)?
- Our estimator will guide you through and educate you every step of the way. The estimator may ask you to text or email pictures of what you want painted.
- This helps us get a visual of what we will be painting and make better recommendations. This includes pictures from a distance, close-ups, areas that need repair, areas that may be difficult to access, and other similar shots.
- We will analyze the data and present a proposal to you as soon as possible.
The Downside to Virtual Estimates
While virtual estimating is convenient and limits contact, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- We miss the personal touch.
- It is true that you have an interaction over the phone, but there is just something that you get from meeting face to face.
- Virtual estimating is not perfect.
- You get a greater level of detail when a property is seen in person that you cannot see in a photo or video.
- Some projects are hard to estimate virtually.
- Exterior painting projects are going to be more difficult than interior projects, and the longer it has been since your last paint job, the harder it is going to be to identify potential issues.
What If I Prefer an In-Person Estimate?
If you prefer to have someone on-site to provide an estimate, we would be pleased to do so. Sometimes technology cannot replace the personal touch that comes from meeting face to face. If a health issue gives you concern about an in-person meeting, let us know how we can mitigate your concern. We will do our best to accommodate you.
Whatever painting project you have in mind, MTS Painting can accommodate either virtual or on-site estimate requests.
